Meet Charlie
Charlie Friesen is a chef, baker, and writer from the west coast of Canada. She is the heart behind from charlie, a food project rooted in the belief that food is more than a meal—it's a way to gather, connect, and celebrate.
Charlie’s cooking is inspired by the family-style meals she grew up with: abundant, generous, and meant to be shared. Raised in a big family, she learned early on that the table is where bonds are built and memories are made. That spirit of togetherness carries through everything she serves.
Her food is deeply ingredient-driven, guided by the seasons and the landscapes she calls home. From berry-picking in BC’s forests to shucking oysters on the beach or harvesting tomatoes in her Oma’s garden, Charlie believes ingredients carry stories—and that cooking is a way to stay connected to the earth’s rhythms and gifts.
At the center of it all is bread. To Charlie, bread is more than nourishment; it’s one of our oldest human rituals. She is a trained sourdough baker, and her loaves—crackling, warm, and lovingly made—often anchor her meals. To break bread together is an act of care. To make it is a way of life.
Through from charlie, she hopes to offer rich, meaningful experiences that bring people together. She develops recipes that inspire well being and joy—many of which she shares on her blog—and is always open to collaboration. With a strong background in food service, business strategy, and management, Charlie also consults with food-focused ventures, helping others bring their ideas to life with heart and clarity.
